Chikungunya Dengue Arrive Early This Year

Chikangunya , Dengue attack Delhi NCR early in the year 2017.The Capital city has been dealing with the menace of mosquito-borne viral diseases for quite some time now and this time they seem to have struck early. A possible reason for this may be the untimely rain that Delhi experienced last week. Health experts feel that with the rise of the temperatures, the activity of the mosquitoes may fall in the coming days.

Dengue fever is a disease caused by a family of viruses that are transmitted by mosquitoes.Many people infected by the virus a first time show few or no symptoms, but they can still contribute to the transmission of the virus if bitten by a mosquito.

 Dengue fever is transmitted by the bite of an Aedes mosquito infected with a dengue virus. The mosquito becomes infected when it bites a person with dengue virus in their blood. It can’t be spread directly from one person to another person. symptoms, which usually begin four to six days after infection and last for up to 10 days.Sudden, high fever, Severe headaches, Severe headaches, Severe headaches, Severe joint and muscle pain, Fatigue, Nausea, Vomiting, skin rash.People with weakened immune systems as well as those with a second or subsequent dengue infection are believed to be at greater risk for developing dengue hemorrhagic fever.

 

Treatment of chikungunya and Dengue Fever:

1. Get plenty of rest.

2. Drink fluids to prevent dehydration.

3.Take medicine such as acetaminophen (Tylenol®) or paracetamol to reduce fever and  pain.(With Doctor Consultation)

4. Do not take aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS until dengue can be ruled out to reduce the risk of bleeding).

 

        

There is no antiviral drug or medicine specifically for Chikungunya. But since chikungunya is cured by immune system in almost all cases there is no need to worry. Treatment usually is for the symptoms and include taking sufficient rest, taking more fluid food and medicines to relieve pain.Honey and lime mix is found to have soothing effect on the disease. Avoiding specific medicines is actually recommended for quick recovery. Also very mild exercise to joints can help ease the pain. For few patients,home remedies also can work. However pregnant women and patients with health problems must consult a doctor.Usually the disease starts to decrease in intensity after 3 days and it may take up to 2 weeks for recovery. But in elderly the recovery is very slow and may take upto 3 months. In some cases the joint pain can last even upto a year!

        

Mosquito control is the only effective prevention technique. Use mosquito coils or repellentsUse curtains or window nets which prevent entry of mosquitos to the house. Use of cream or spray that can be applied on skin. This masks body odour and effectively you are invisible from mosquito. Wear dress which covers most of the body.Most infection happens occur outside the house and hence mosquito control is the most effective way to prevent Chikungunya outbreak. It is also important that patients with infection don't get bitten by mosquito. The most important thing is to visit to a doctor if you devlope the symptoms the above .Your Doctor may order for few blood tests for Chikungunya or some other virus like Dengue and Zika.
